Are You a Good Neighbor?

Today happens to be Canada’s Thanksgiving. If you were Canada’s Thanksgiving Day you’d be quite dizzy. It’s been everywhere, but it finally landed on the second Monday of October.

In earlier days, Canadian citizens were asked to thank God for everything from the end of a cholera epidemic to the health of the Prince of Wales and Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.

However on Thursday, April 6, 1815, we thanked God for the end of the war with the United States of America (more about this later).

As a result of that war, when America actually invaded Canada, our countries share the longest undefended border in the world.

I wonder if we can say the same about our neighbor next door. You know the ones. Their dogs bark all night. The cat messes in our garden. They never mow their grass. Their kids break our windows with their baseballs. (Oops…are you that neighbor?)

Those next door borders are quite short. Are they undefended and peaceful? Why/why not?

Genesis 13:8-So Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not have any quarrelling between you and me, or between your herders and mine, for we are close relatives (NIV).”

Prayer: Lord, what can we do to make peace in our time, in our neighborhoods a reality? Lord, after you tell us, give us the gumption to do what you say. For Christ’s Sake. Amen.
