Bamboo-ed

Every plant needs good soil, water and sunshine but some don’t seem to appreciate it. Take the Chinese Bamboo plant.

The first year nothing happens

The second year still shows no sign of growth.

The third year is just a repeat of the others.

Finally in the fourth year, again – nothing!

But in the fifth year, when most gardeners have given up hope, a miracle occurs. That plant grows up to eighty feet in just six weeks.

Sometimes, our Christian life seems like that. We persevere, we struggle; we do our best and see no growth at all.

But underneath, in the deepest of our selves, God is making a difference; forming root systems, making progress. All we have to do is stop giving up and wait for his growth in our lives.

Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—ignoring God!—harvests a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.
(Galatians 6:6-8, MSG)

Prayer – Lord, we’re trusting in you growing our roots even though we can’t spot them yet. Amen
