Hebrews 2:18–because He Himself [in His humanity] has suffered in being tempted (tested and tried), He is able [immediately] to run to the cry of (assist, relieve) those who are being tempted and tested and tried [and who therefore are being exposed to suffering} (AMP).
Only a fellow migraine sufferer can understand the difficulties involved when a migraine strikes. While lots of drugs promise instant relief, the most comforting aid to my pain is a quiet, dark room and a friend who will place and replace a cold cloth on my pounding brow.
Some friends are more sympathetic than others. A person who has never experienced a migraine has little time for what they consider to be ‘malingering.’ But a joint sufferer? Now that’s another story! They delight in comforting because they know exactly how bad I feel.
When Jesus came to earth, He was tempted and tried. He suffered. Because of that He is able to assist and relieve us in our most difficult places. All we have to do is consider Jesus (Hebrews 3:1).
Prayer: Lord, You have experienced all our pain. You know our suffering. Thanks that you stand ready, a Friend we can always call on because you’ve been there and You understand. Amen.
