My friend offered me this advice out of nowhere and I was shocked because I didn’t think I did this.
She said, “You do have a tendency to complain!”
What? Not little been a Christian for forty years me? Never!
OUCH!
Then I remembered my complaint about the slow lineup at the coffee shop.
I remembered how I gossiped about a neighbor.
And then there was that newspaper editorial. I ranted about.
OUCH!
My friends added this thought. Keep your conversations so pure that you could end them with this thought. “In Jesus’ Name. Amen”
I knew even when I blathered those complaining thoughts that none of them honored Christ. I knew that I couldn’t ever add his name to any of them because they were not pleasing to Him.
I’m reviewing my words more carefully now…before I say them… instead of after.
May the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be pleasing in your sight, Lord, our Rock and our Redeemer. (Psalm 19:14)
