Judges 4:21–But Jael, Heber’s wife, took a tent pin and a hammer in her hand and went softly to him and drove the pin through his temple and into the ground; for he was in a deep sleep from weariness. So he died.(AMP)
For the most part, my life is a series of routine ordinary tasks. My to-do-list generally includes things like washing dishes, cooking meals, housekeeping and babysitting grandchildren. None of it sounds exciting from a worldly point of view. However, that’s where I’ve learned my big lessons in discipline, perseverance, and prayer.
Tent pegs were Jael’s ‘ordinary.’ Every time the family moved, she did her regular job of tying down the tent with those pegs. When the time came to use her ordinary skills in an extraordinary way, she was ready. God used her to destroy the wicked Sisera.
Like Jael, we don’t know how our ‘ordinary’ will be used in an extraordinary way for God, but we can get ready by practicing it everyday.
Prayer: Father, when we are tired of the mundane, ordinary humdrum of our lives, give us a glimpse of its use in your eternity. Amen.
