Dirty Feet, Dirty Mind

I was speaking in a renowned theatre town so I decided to treat myself to tickets for their latest production. The play was vile and disgusting in every way, full of obscenities and worse. Do these writers and producers truly hang out with people who talk like that all the time? Are there places where people are so uneducated that they only know five or six words, total?

Well, I don’t have to listen to that and neither do you. Like Mahatma Ghandi said, “I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet.”

We can ask for our money back, but by then the words are already in our minds. We cannot ‘unsee’ or ‘unthink’ them. I should have checked that play out more carefully. Now God has the extra job of helping me clean my mind from its filth.

Don’t live carelessly, unthinkingly. Make sure you understand what the Master wants. (Ephesians 7:17, MSG)

Prayer- Lord God, forgive us for rushing into things without realizing the effect they will have on our minds. We beg both your forgiveness and your help to cleanse our minds. Amen.
