A couple with multiple unpaid traffic tickets screamed the salvation message of Jesus at the police officers. Clearly, they didn’t understand how a relationship with Jesus works.
We ask Jesus into our lives and we are saved from eternal damnation, BUT then we are called to walk in love, grace, obedience, and kindness, not to continue a life of sin.
We cannot sin and expect Jesus to show up on our behalf. As Christians, we are called to a higher path. Consider this passage.
Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. And he sent messengers ahead, to get things ready for him; but the people there did not welcome him. When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?” But Jesus turned and rebuked them. (Luke 9:51-55, NIV)
You ought to live holy and godly lives. Make every effort to be found spotless, blameless, and at peace with him. Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless. Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
(From 1 Peter 3:11-17, NIV)
