If it’s labeled Dry Clean Only, a silk shirt or wool slacks have little chance of moving into my house. I am a low maintenance kind of gal. Fancy fabrics are just too much trouble and cost too much to maintain.
Unfortunately, some friendships are Dry Clean Only. One gal is too prickly to share a conversation. Another borrows and never returns. Still another insists on going Dutch, sharing expenses, but you apparently are Dutch! Others only visit on Sunday mornings when you want to go to church. A few think nothing of dropping their children off at your house, because you ‘don’t work.’
Friends do not take advantage of friends. While we restructure some of our relationships, we might well ask ourselves if we too are Dry Clean Only.
A friend loves at all times. (Proverbs 17:17a, NIV)
Prayer: Lord, help us to be a friend in both word and deed. In Christ’s name. Amen.
