Even Afraid

Young Samuel’s first task of obedience was not easy. He had to go to the man who was his caretaker, his boss, his adoptive parent, and tell him this.

Announce to Eli that I will judge and punish his house forever for his sons were bringing a curse upon themselves [blaspheming God], and he did not restrain them. (From 1 Samuel 3:11-14)

Was Samuel afraid? You betcha. (1 Samuel 3:15)

Samuel lay until morning; then he opened the doors of the Lord’s house. And [he] was afraid to tell the vision to Eli.

We must ask ourselves if we are just hearing the Lord or really listening to what he says and then doing it, even though we are afraid… EVEN though we are afraid…

Prayer – Oh Lord, help us be obedient in spite of our fear. Amen
