Everyone’s Father

Matthew 7:11–If you then who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him? (NRSV)

Everyone’s Father
Everyone had a father, that’s plain to see.
It’s simple, scientific biology!
Our dads weren’t perfect, their ways not always game,
Yet in spite of their failings, we grew up just the same.
Grew up to know Jesus and learn brand new ways
That included forgiveness for all of past days.
Some of that past was almost too much to bear,
But we came to know Abba and he met us there.
The Dad of the Bible, our Abba, our Lord;
He fights for his children with love and with sword.
So we thank God for fathers, whether good, whether bad,
For they are the fathers that sent us to Dad!

How can we honor this truth in our lives today?

Prayer: Oh, precious Abba Father, thank you for being the kind of father that draws us to yourself. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
