Foreign Food

Eating out with my husband was always an adventure because he liked to confound his order (and the waitress!) with diner slang.

He might order "Adam and Eve on a raft, "or a "pig between the bed sheets." (Poached eggs on toast or a ham sandwich) Other favorites were a "make him cry" (hamburger with onions) or "Adam’s ale and cow feed on the side." (Water and a salad)

He and a seasoned waitress would laugh while an inexperienced one would scratch her head and look to me for translation.

Bible terms make sense after you’ve been a Christian for a while, but when we share Jesus with an unbeliever, words like washed in the blood, justification, and redemption scare them away.

There is one simple truth to share with an unbeliever. Even in the old style English of the King James, it makes perfect sense.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16, KJV)

Prayer- Lord may our words encourage, not mystify. For Christ who died that we might simply believe. Amen.
