Sesquipedalianism. Yes, I know…big words are hard to pronounce. This one is quite silly because it means The Use of Big Words. Wouldn’t you think it would be easier to say, “I use big words!” But no, those who use big words want us to be impressed with their smartness, I guess.
Do you find yourself confused by the language of others? Their words are too big or they speak of a subject we don’t understand. Is it the length of the words or the total length of their speech, for they run together, don’t they?
Comedian Red Skelton said that the longest word every is the one following the words…” Now for a word from our sponsor!”
God does not use big words or confusing language when he wants to talk with us. Here are some ways to check out what you are hearing from God.
He speaks through Godly friends and counsellors and their advice always lines up with scripture.
He speaks your circumstances. Just ask Jonah and the whale! What’s happening now? Are you disobedient? Is there something you know to do and are not doing?
If you are on the right path, God offers peace. For instance, Colossians 3:15 says “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. If you feel uneasy, do not proceed.
Perhaps, he gets your attention through dreams and visions. (Joel 2:28)
We will continue this list tomorrow. Meanwhile, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8, NASB)
Prayer- Lord we want to hear from you. Help us to recognize your voice. Amen.
