Gritting or Grinding?

Last night, 15 pages of my manuscript went missing. I thought I'd have a melt down. Then I remembered my Bible teacher’s current topic. Self-Discipline! Through gritted teeth I cried “I will not let this steal my peace or joy!”

I asked God to give me a word so that I wouldn’t lie awake stewing over my circumstances and of course, he did!

But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.(1 Corinthians 1:27, NIV)

I decided that if Shirl, the heroine in my biography, could trust God to work in her circumstances then I could certainly trust Him to work in mine. I prayed, went to sleep and never gave it another thought. The next morning, a neighbor came over and fixed the problem. (Sharon Greer, author of “See You in the Morning.” a true story about a woman who triumphantly faced muscular sclerosis.)

When everything seems impossible, when the odds seem to be against us, will we grit our teeth in favor of God or grind them in frustration??

Prayer- Lord, give us grace to endure life’s trying situations without complaint for that is indeed true grit.
