Jewel-Eye

I think of Jewel-Eye (better known as July!) as is the jewel of our Ontario summer; hot, humid, and the most popular holiday season for many folks.

When we think of jewels, we generally picture diamonds or sapphires. Jewels are priceless gems, not to be tossed aside lightly. We pass down our heirloom rings and necklaces to our children, hoping they will think them as something lovely Granny wore. We hope they will not run to the nearest pawnbroker to unload them for a paltry dollar or two.

Jewels aren’t just a pretty but are actually used as bearings in timepieces.  They are the star of many a TV mystery. Everybody wants the jewels.

And here we have a jewel for the taking, the appreciation of every good thing that July offers.

The NIV Bible lists 1842 times that the word day is in the Bible. Those days pass so quickly, but all will be Jewel-Eyes. Many will include things we would never describe as jewels, but every day is a gift from God and it is to our advantage to enjoy them that way.

You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure. (Psalm 39:5, NIV)

And then we will be able to more fully enjoy these days.

Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. (Psalm 23:6, NIV)

Prayer- Father thank you for all the Jewel-Eye days you give us. For Christ’s sake. Amen.
