Yes, I know I’ve told you this lots of times. Just do it!
But do we?
After John was beheaded, Jesus needed to be alone with his grief, but soon after, he returned, offering compassion, healing, and even dinner to thousands of people. (Matthew 14:1-2)
What can we do under the same circumstances? We are still in the grieving process, yes, but we can do something.
Like Jesus, we can go out into the crowd. We can pray, feed, organize, befriend, listen, and maybe even clean up.
Oh, we will have to retreat again, but that is alright. Even Jesus did that.
Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up to a mountainside by himself to pray. (Matthew 14:22-23)
But like Jesus, we will get our strength from the Father and return to the crowds. We will help others, and in the midst of that, we ourselves will be helped.
