Rapper Kanye West has been in the news most recently for his ridiculous upstaging of Taylor Swift at the MTV Music Awards, but Religion Dispatches blogger and Columbia University professor Josef Sorett takes an interesting and thoughtful look at West’s Grammy-winning “Jesus Walks” and the impact it continues to make on hip-hop music and on African-American perceptions of the church.
Sorett adds to that mix a current video by Chicago rapper Rhymefest which takes a pointed poke at prosperity gospel evangelist. Even if you’re not a huge fan of hip-hop, which I’m not, the Christian social commentary is interesting and meaningful nonetheless.
