It is seldom now that others mention or even remember that grief continues to be a big part of my life. That’s why this note from fellow author Roderick Marshall caught me by surprise.
Dear Brenda,
I guess you are now settled into being the new you. Keep on keeping on and know that God is with you and do not tire in doing good.
Rest assured that you will be reunited one day with all the good and sanctified being of your husband as we all join together in worship of our Saviour Jesus. Remember that you too will get new body and will be leaping and jumping and praising God again, even if you have momentarily stopped.
It’s nice to be reminded, because some days, I tend to forget that there is a better day ahead.
Will we recognise our spouses when we see them in heaven? I believe so, but the Bible is clear that our relationship will be very different.
At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. (Matthew 22:30, NIV)
The Message Bible puts it this way. At the resurrection we’re beyond marriage. As with the angels, all our ecstasies and intimacies then will be with God.
Prayer – Lord, thank you that we will see our loved ones in heaven, but more importantly that our relationship with you will be even deeper. Amen
