In Luke 11, Jesus repeatedly points out that keeping on in prayer makes the difference.
So, I say to you, Ask and keep on asking and it shall be given you; seek and keep on seeking and you shall find; knock and keep on knocking and the door shall be opened to you.
Why, you might ask? Because everyone who asks and keeps on asking receives; and he who seeks and keeps on seeking finds; and to him who knocks and keeps on knocking, the door shall be opened. (Luke 11:9-10, NIV)
And we can expect fathers to be good to their children. What father if you ask for a fish will give you a snake instead? (Luke 11:12, NIV)
Jesus just told us to pray—to our Father!! We might even read it this way.
When you ask your heavenly Father for bread, will he give you a stone? If you ask your heavenly Father for a fish, will he give you a snake? If you ask your heavenly Father for an egg, will he give you a scorpion? NO!!!
And he continues in verse 13. Your heavenly Father gives good things to his children and that includes the gift of the Holy Spirit.
When our answers to prayer seem far apart, keep on praying. God is working on the answer.
