Lessons from The Gospel of John: Because He Lives

Jesus replied, “Tear down this temple, and I'll rebuild it in three days.”  – John 2:19

This statement really floored the religious leaders of the day. If you remember, Jesus just cleared the money changers from the Temple using a whip and the Temple leaders were upset because Jesus disrupted their financial empire. They asked Him to perform a miracle to justify His actions. Jesus’ response was Verse 19. Today we know what Jesus meant. He was talking about His body and was predicting His resurrection after being crucified. The Pharisees thought He was talking about the Temple building. This is important because Jesus was resurrected. If this had not occurred then we would not be able to look forward to resurrection and living with Him in glory.

Bill and Gloria Gaither wrote beautiful song some years ago called, “Because He Lives.” In this song the chorus says, “Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, All fear is gone. Because I know He holds the future, And life is worth the living just because He lives.”

Jesus lives, as He predicted that day in the Temple. You can face tomorrow, no matter what that tomorrow holds, because Jesus holds the future. All you have to do is accept.
