Making No Sense

Sometimes God calls us to do things that make no sense. Sometimes we will learn why and sometimes we won’t know till we get to heaven. The best thing to do is obey, because if we don’t the course of someone’s history is changed.

Take the Magi for instance. They came from the east, looking for the child born king of the Jews. King Herod heard this and panicked. He talked secretly to the Magi to try and get more information from them. “I want to worship him too,” he said. The Magi found the baby, worshipped him and presented their gifts, but they were warned in a dream to go home by another route. (Why?)

The same thing happened to Joseph. (Why?) (From Matthew 2, NIV)

Here’s why. God knows what he is doing.

When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled.  (From Matthew 2:16-17, NIV)

To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. (1 Samuel 15:22b)

Prayer – Father, we hear you. Give us the sense to take the other route when you say so. Amen
