The Museum is currently No. 14 on the Billboard Christian chart with “My Help Comes From the Lord“. This is a song that quickly gains your attention and yet the lyrics are straight out the scriptures, based on Psalm 121:
When sorrows come and hope seems gone
You’re the Rock I rest upon
When waters rise and I can’t breathe
You’re the love that rescues me
Out of the darkness
I lift up my eyes
Unto the hills
I feel my faith rise
Chorus
Maker of heaven, giver of life
You are my strength, my song in the night
My refuge, my shelter
Now and forevermore
My help comes from the Lord
When I’m broken, scarred by sin
Death gives way to life again
When I suffer, when I’m bound
In You I’m free, in You I’m found
Out of the darkness
I lift up my eyes
Unto the hills
I feel my faith rise
Chorus
Maker of heaven, giver of life
You are my strength
You’re my refuge
Now and forevermore
Chorus
My help comes from the Lord
My help comes from the Lord
The Museum
Lead singer, Ben Richter is from San Antonio. Geoffrey Ashcraft, guitarist, is from Waco. They first met up in Texas. Ben needed a guitarist for a praise and worship band he formed in Texas. Geoffrey applied for the job and the duo played together in Texas for several years performing for churches and camps. About six years ago, they met Josh Kirk, drummer/programmer, and Chris Brink, bass player, when they took a job leading music at a church in Georgia. They band started leading the local worship service and then began traveling on musical mission trips overseas.
One of those trip took the band to Romania. It was an amazing experience to be allowed to participate in large, public, Christian gathering in the same town square where communism had been overthrown in 1989. A nearby museum contained humble evidence of that revolution. It left an impression on the hearts of the four band members.
They call themselves The Museum because they want people to look at them and listen to their music and see for themselves that Christ has created a love revolution in their hearts. They strive to give God the glory in everything they do. In fact they take no credit at all for the song, “My Help Comes From the Lord”. They humbly tell listeners, “these are not our words, but God's, straight from scriptures”. Is there any place better to get inspiration than from the Word of God? The message behind the song is one of encouragement to climb out of the darkness of the problems that plague you and consume you. Take your eyes off the problems and look to the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. Let His love, His grace and His peace set you free.
