I’ve barely touched on the life of Christ in these few devotionals. I can’t possibly record everything here.
The disciple John felt the same way. He finished the Book of John with these words.
This is the same disciple who was an eyewitness to all these things and wrote them down. And we all know that his eyewitness account is reliable and accurate. There are so many other things Jesus did. If they were all written down, each of them, one by one, I can’t imagine a world big enough to hold such a library of books.
He said “I was an eye witness to these things. You all know that I am telling the truth. Jesus did so many other things that if they were all written down there would be a world big enough to hold them all.
John wrote a memoir, which is comprised of his favorite memories of Christ, while Luke wrote a biography, checking every fact for accuracy.
John’s books were scrolls, handwritten with a quill pen. Keep in mind that a scroll of the Torah, (The first five books of the Old Testament) weighs 25-30 pounds.
Perhaps you are giving someone a book for Christmas. Take a moment to consider how much time it took to write that book and think of loyal disciples like John who shared the truth about the Lord Jesus Christ, laboriously, line by line, so that we might know the truth of the Gospel.
