In a Robin Hood movie, the Hoods attacked Prince John and his cohorts with meat pies. They shrank back and did not attack the band of robbers and thieves that made up Robin’s gang.
Two thoughts occur.
One- Pies can’t hurt you unless you eat them all and get fat.
Two- Why didn’t they just advance through the thicket of gravy and veg?
It’s sort of like words.
People attack us with words and we give up.
They tell us we are no good and we believe them.
They say we will never amount to anything and we believe them.
They attack our background and we believe them.
How will you meet your word foes today? My grade seven friend has been bullied for quite some time. This year, when the kids started calling him names, he yelled back at them…” I can’t hear you.” The bully repeated his attack and again and again, my little friend yelled back the same words. When the bully was exhausted, he asked… “Now don’t you look silly, screaming like that!” No more bullying.
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand, you save me. (Psalms 138:7)
