The world’s politics are a worrisome mess right now. It was no different in Jesus’ day.
Political opinions differ and people even fight over them. Sadly, that’s just the way it is. And forever, and even worse, some are also offended by the truth of the Word of God.
Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. (John 6:35, NIV)
First, the Jews grumbled.
At this, the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” They said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, ‘I came down from heaven’?” (John 6:41-42, NIV)
His own people grumbled.
On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?” Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you? (John 6: 61, NIV)
Are you offended by today’s politics; or even worse, by the Word of the Christ? Shame on you (and me)!
Prayer- Lord, we don’t want to be one of those with hate-filled views of any kind. Help us God into peace and truth. Amen.
