Real Bowls

Do you know you can make bowls of chocolate or cheese? Yes you can! And they even hold things for a bit, though but not for long. Someone either eats them or they collapse and dissolve from the pressure of their contents. They aren’t real bowls, only make-believe.

A real bowl is made of sterner stuff. It holds food and water even if it is chipped or cracked. A real bowl doesn’t give up when hot liquids get poured into it. A real bowl will not be bowled over by whatever happens to it. A real bowl stands the test of time.

In my early days I was cheesy. Tough stuff laid me low, but now? Oh, I may shiver at first, my cracks might show, a chip or two is visible in my attitude, but I aim to be God’s kind of bowl; the real kind, the kind that stands the test of time.

…and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. (Revelation 5:8b, NIV)
