Do you remember when you got engaged? Heard the news about a family birth? Or maybe the day you graduated? Those details stick out in our minds, just as the details of July 4th, 1776 are remembered today by all Americans.
So it was with the Israelites when they were about to take possession of the Promised Land. Note these phrases from Deuteronomy 1:1-5.
They were in the wilderness east of the Jordan. It was the ‘the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month.’ and it was after they had defeated Sihon…Og….’ and it was ‘east of the Jordan in the territory of Moab.’
Enjoy the remembering because remembering calls us to remember what we stood for originally. It gives us a guide post when we lose our way.
