People mean well, they really do. They want to spare you trouble and heartache and foolishness. Truly! Now I hardly put myself in Paul’s position in Acts 21:10-13, but we shared the same problem. God told us one thing and people told us another.
Agabus said, “The Holy Spirit says, ‘the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem will bind the owner of this belt and will hand him over to the Gentiles.” The people pleaded with Paul not to go up to Jerusalem. Paul answered, “I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” We gave up and said, “The Lord’s will be done.”
How many of us have tried to avoid God’s will for ourselves or for others? How often have we told our family members what we thought about their work or marriage decisions? When was it any of our business?
So, I say to all of us (yes, me included): Mind your own business. You will be busy enough finding God’s call for your own life, let alone interfering with the lives of others.
As to our own selves?
When God tells you to do something, and you’ve prayed about it and checked with Godly people you trust and made sure the task aligns with God’s word in the Bible, then go for it. Yes, you may look foolish. People might laugh at you. BUT you are being true to yourself and to God…. What else matters?
