As long-time dieter, this verse confronted me in a new way today. My eating is not about calories or content or amount. It’s about obedience!
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may test them, whether or not they will walk in My instruction.
(Exodus 16:4, NIV)
Think of food as a bank account. If we binged on spending, where would we be?
In the wilderness He fed you manna which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do good for you in the end.
(Deuteronomy 8:16, NIV)
Food continues to be my thorn in the flesh, but it has a purpose.
To keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me. I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
(From 2 Corinthians 12:7-9, NIV)
