Yes, the air is heavy with cold breezes and unwelcome chills. Why? Because the seasons are changing. It is not quite summer; not quite fall; neither one or the other. Our hearts yearn for warm weather to stay but when we had heat, we mourned its hotness. We complained of not enough rain; too much rain; sun only in the week and not on the weekends.
Now it is coming into the cool fall of October, with leaf colour changes and migrating birds. Soon we will complain about the leaving of fall and the onset of winter.
Are we ever happy and content? The answer is no. And the reasons lie in these verses.
“You’re blessed when content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought. (From Matthew 5:5, MSG)
If you walk around with your nose in the air, you’ll end up flat on your face. But if you’re content to be simply yourself, you will become more than yourself.” (From Luke 14:10-11, MSG)
Philip said, “Master, show us the Father; then we’ll be content.” (John 14:8, MSG)
As long as you grab for what makes you feel good or makes you look important, are you really much different than a babe at the breast, content only when everything’s going your way? (1 Corinthians 3:3, MSG)
Do you understand this? We whine and complain because we aren’t happy with who we are, thus we take offense at life.
And who are you really? I hope you get the message. You are God’s beloved and he wants you to be satisfied with that.
Prayer- Dear God, we, your beloved, beg your assistance because we are whiners and complainers and we do not want to be that. Help us God. Amen.
