The news is a bunch of lies

It's a sad day in America when the news coverage is all about lies.

Surely it will go down in the history books that Rep. Joe Wilson interrupted the president's speech to Congress on Wednesday by calling him out as a liar, an act prohibited by House rules and worthy of punishment. The South Carolina Republican yelled “lie” in response to the president's claim that illegal aliens would not be provided health insurance through his health care plan.
The president's response: “It's not true.” Obviously both can't be right. Someone's not telling the truth.

Dishonesty was also plainly displayed in a hidden camera video of ACORN, released yesterday by BigGovernment.com, exposing two Baltimore employees who knowingly assisted a couple who were wanting to set up a brothel for underage girls brought into our country illegally. ACORN instructed the couple how they could lie about, or misrepresent, their prostitution business calling it “performing arts” for tax purposes. The employees of ACORN, an organization funded by our tax dollars, explained to the couple how they could write off “business expenses” such as grooming and clothing to the tune of $7,000. In short, they taught them how to lie on government forms so that they could engage in illegal business.

However, those who orchestrated and videotaped this undercover operation engaged in misrepresentation, too. They posed as persons whom they were not in order to trap others in wrongdoing. Is one act excusable and the other inexcusable?

What should we think about untruth in its various forms? God hates untruth in any form. For God is truth, and he cannot act contrary to his very nature. The whole of God's Word teaches that dishonesty should be and will be exposed. It also teaches that God looks at the heart of man. I cannot see the hearts of the creators of the aforementioned video, but it appears their motive was not to be dishonest for any evil intent, but rather to expose dishonesty so that truth will reign. They brought darkness into light, and voluntarily revealed their own fictitious personas used in the process.

It is a shame that any journalists, investigators or officers of the law must go undercover in order to find out the truth of any person, organization or situation. But God did not call us to shrink back from evil, but to step out and fight it so that his name is magnified throughout the earth.

“These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace; do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false oath, for all these things I hate, declares the Lord.” (Zechariah 8:16-17)

This is an interesting topic, because while Rep. Wilson’s behavior was uncalled for, he might have had a point. It seems that while President Obama’s statements regarding illegal aliens may be true on the surface, with a bit of background it appears that they are deceiving. The Congressional Research Service agrees with this assessment ( full report found here http://www.scribd.com/doc/19592760/Treatment-of-Non-Citizens-in-HR-3200). For example, with regard to health care exchanges, the CRS found: “H.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on noncitizens—whether legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently—participating in the Exchange.” Just as with the subsidized abortion debate, not writing legislation against insuring illegal aliens is a back-door way of including them in America’s ever-rising costs. CRS also found that Section 246, which could prevent illegal aliens from participating in the government (public) option, would be: “hard to enforce.” The Examiner http://www.examiner.com/x-17412-Macon-County-Conservative-Examiner~y2009m9d8-The-proof-that-ObamaCare-will-cover-illegal-immigrants points out that: “Section 246 (page 143) of the bill expressly prohibits illegal aliens from receiving government-run healthcare, the bill does not include a specific requirement that a person prove his or her citizenship in order to obtain affordability credits, which means that illegal aliens could obtain coverage.” Hard to enforce, indeed. I wrote a blog on these facts and our responses on my website at http://www.wranglerdani.com. I think that while we need to address truth, yelling and making a scene only hurts our cause.

All news, whether from a liberal or conservative standpoint, have found it easier and more profitable to spin lies than to tell the truth. This generation of citizens is the most misinformed that has ever existed, in my opinion. As a society we want to be spoon-fed “news” and will accept anything said, as long as it lines up with our own personal beliefs (whatever they may be). Actually researching all sides of an issue is no longer encouraged. Instead, we rely on FoxNews or CNN to inform us. We need to take more responsibility for being educated on local, statewide and national politics.
