So here it is almost Christmas and we aren’t ready. Both turkey and presents should at least be in our house. Forget the thawing and wrapping! The smell of freshly baked gingerbread should be wafting through the air and the vacuum should be working its grace on the living room floor. All the Christmas cards that came in our mail box speak about peace and we don’t have any.
We are S-O-O-O far behind… What to do? What to do? Take a deep breath. We can only do as much as we can every day, one thing at a time. More is not possible.
“You are not behind! I don't want you to try to catch up; I just want you to jump in where we are, O.K.? Perfectionism is shelved in 2012”
The Fly Lady used that as their slogan this year and I adopted it as my own. What is not done is not done. Just start where you are and go forward. Get a fresh turkey or even serve a ham. Shorten the gift list. Use bags instead of wrapping paper. Fill the house with the fragrance of a stick of cinnamon in a pot of water, buy some cookies and vacuum after the party.
The shepherds were busy too but they took time to find Jesus.
Luke 2: 8-11-And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord (KJV).
Prayer: Father God, may we relax our standards a bit and take in the beauty of Christ coming to earth as a babe, just for us. Amen.
