Trudge On

“Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart…” The song “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” from Carousel, Rodgers and Hammerstein, 1945 might  be better versed as “trudge on, trudge on.”

Seriously, aren’t some days the kind where we can barely put one foot in front of the other? Forget walking! Aren’t we trudging forward with slow, weary and heavy steps?

Never mind. At least we are moving forward. It’s the next lines that count. With hope in our hearts…we’ll never walk alone…

We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.  And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. (Romans 5:3b-5, NIV)

He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. (Hebrews 13:5b-6, KJV)

Prayer – Lord God, when we are less than enthusiastic about our lives, when trudging is all we seem able to manage, please give us your grace beyond measure. Amen
