What is Worship?

What is worship?  Believe it or not, many churches in the world can't totally answer this question.  We can call almost anything worship.  We can have a great choir or worship team or flag wavers in our church and we can say our church has great worship, but seriously, are we?  Can we go through a simple physical act and then God is just suddenly worshiped?  What if we have a very talented worship team but the worship is just dead and dry?

Well, what does the Bible say about worship?

2 Kings 17:36 says “But the Lord, who brought you up from the land of Egypt with great power and an outstretched arm, Him you shall fear, Him you shall worship, and to Him you shall offer sacrifice.”

Also, Romans 12:1 says “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship.”

These are some great verses on what true worship actually is.  You are offering a sacrifice to God.  You are offering the true honest praises from your heart, not just the happy churchy part, but even the messy, rotten intentions parts. You're sacrificing your pride, your reputation, your time and energy for the Living God.  Have you ever truly made sacrifices of your pride during worship in front of others?  Instead of following the worship leader or following the rest of the congregation, have you ever gone after God with reckless abandon, desperate for the blood spent for your soul?
