This year our church created a different event. We had Pancake Sunday instead of Pancake Tuesday. Since Pancake Tuesday is supposed to be the last big feast before Lent…we were two days ahead of the rest of you in the fasting department!
Chocolate and sweets generally head the give up list with caffeine and alcohol a close second. Some people eat no meat at all. Others live on liquid diets like the maple syrup diet! Well, I am all in on that one! In this modern age electronics often make the list as well.
What did you give up for Lent, friends? We are supposed to give up things we like. Have you given up on your giving up already?
I call this type of sacrifice lent-ing, or lending because we have every intention of taking that thing back. However, when Jesus died on the cross, he did it once and for all, for you and for me.
For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. (Romans 6: 9-10, NIV)
Prayer- God, give us the strength to hang on in our Lent giving just a bit longer. Amen.
