If it seems to you that there have been quite a few films with religious themes or undercurrents recently it’s not an accident.
The Christmas season success of “A Christmas Carol” and “The Blind Side” are part of an increasing trend of the local movieplex featuring films with unabashedly spiritual, and in some cases outwardly Christian content.
A Washington Post article noting this trend points to the success of “Passion of the Christ” six years ago as a watershed event. It also duly notes the popularity of “Fireproof” based out of the church-based Sherwood Pictures studio in Georgia.
Having choices at the movies is always a good thing, particularly when it matches up with positive or creative looks at faith.
