Later on, there was a Jewish festival for which Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem a pool near the Sheep Gate. This pool in Hebrew is called Bethesda, having five porches (alcoves, colonnades, doorways). (John 5:1-2, AMPC)
John’s details at one time gave scholars the opportunity to call him a liar and therefore question the veracity of the Gospel of John. BUT THEN! The pool was discovered in 1888 and verified almost 100 years later.
Take that, you who continue to doubt!
The pool was thirteen meters deep. No wonder the paralyzed man didn’t make a big effort to drop in. If he wasn’t healed, he would drown. His problem wasn’t just physical. His mind was clouded with fear.
Are we afraid to jump into whatever healing God is calling us into?
