No, I don’t mean literally, but if I did and you were a Christmas tree, you would be loved and bedazzled for only a few days and then be stuffed into a snowbank for garbage pick-up.
We are not garbage. He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the trash heap. (Psalm 113:7)
God begs us to be like a tree, planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. (Psalm 1:3)
He says that we can be like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God, trusting in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever. (Psalm 52:8)
He says that the fields can be jubilant, and everything in them and that we can sing for joy. (Psalm 96:12)
He tells us that the trees of the Lord are well watered. (Psalm 104:16)
What else do we know about trees? Trees are well-grounded; just as we should be in the Lord. We need to be connected with our roots and bend in adversity. We ought to be pleased at who we are in the Lord and just keep growing.
He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” (Psalm 91:15-16)
Be a tree, friends and live long in the Lord!
