The Gift of Giving

Do you know that giving helps depression? Give yourself small treats. First thing in the morning, make your bed. You have accomplished one small thing already! Enjoy a bubbly bath. Get dressed, and I don’t mean get into your housecoat. Savor your morning coffee while reading the newspaper.

You can plan ahead for some fun things like a movie with your teenager, pizza on New Year’s Eve or getting those new slacks hemmed.

These are all good but the biggest way to help yourself is to give to someone else. That mound of leftover turkey is waiting to make it to the little old lady down the street who never gets visitors. Maybe call the family who had flu over the holidays and would appreciate your leftover sweet tray.

If snow lives in your area, anyone would appreciate help with removal. The exercise will clear the cobwebs out of your brain. And while we are at it, decide to adopt a better attitude.

You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (Acts 20:35b, NLT)
